The Position
We are seeking an experienced General Practitioner – Visiting Medical Officer (GP VMO) to join a friendly and supportive mixed billing practice in regional Tasmania. This role offers the perfect balance of autonomy, financial reward, and lifestyle, with opportunities to work across both general practice and hospital settings.
What’s on offer:
  • $300k+ annual earning potential (depending on sessions and VMO shifts)
  • Up to $20k incentive payment on commencement
  • $1,200 daily VMO on-call rate
  • 65% of Medicare billings
  • Eligible for RA3/DPA
  • Full accommodation, vehicle, fuel, and utilities covered during VMO shifts
This is an ideal role for doctors looking for professional variety, strong income streams, and the chance to make a meaningful contribution to rural healthcare.

Location
This position is based in a welcoming rural community in northeast Tasmania, surrounded by rolling farmland, fresh produce, and breathtaking natural landscapes. The area combines the best of both worlds: a peaceful, community-focused lifestyle with easy access to vineyards, mountain biking trails, and the world-class beaches of Tasmania’s east coast. With a warm, close-knit community spirit, you’ll feel at home quickly — and you may even find yourself going home with fresh veggies from grateful patients.

Essential Criteria
To be considered for this role, applicants must have:
  • Fellowship with FRACGP or FACRRM
  • Current ALS2 (or equivalent) certification, with recent emergency medicine experience (within the last 6 months)
Service Overview
The practice is purpose-built and fully equipped, featuring five consult rooms, a three-bay treatment room, a procedure room, and on-site pathology. Doctors benefit from a strong Chronic Disease Management program, allowing them to focus on patient care rather than paperwork.
In addition, the hospital provides a true rural VMO experience with:
  • 19 inpatient beds
  • Emergency and outpatient services
  • Low-risk maternity care
  • Physiotherapy and radiology services
Doctors enjoy the freedom to choose their schedule, with core hours 8am–6pm weekdays and an optional Saturday clinic. Support is provided by an experienced team of practice nurses, admin staff, and clinical leads, plus access to medical educators.
This is a rare opportunity to combine the best aspects of general practice and hospital medicine in one of Tasmania’s most beautiful regions.
